Badshahi Mosque

Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan
Visited in December 2013

17th century mosque, commissioned by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The big isn’t always good. I prefer Wazir Khan Mosque (which is commissioned by Shah Jahan, father of Aurangzeb) much more. The emperor Shah Jahan was good architect by himself. He is also the man who built Taj Mahal for his wife.

Designing mosque as symmetric should be also related to the acoustic reason: parallel walls cause amazing resonance of voices of prayers.

Walking alone as a foreigner in a mosque seemed to attract public attention. All of sudden, I was surrounded by people taking picture of “a foreigner”.
